As a sweetener, real maple syrup provides three times the sweetening power of cane sugar, but with it only 40 calories per tablespoon! Real maple syrup may be substituted for part or all of the granulated sugar called for in most recipes. The rule for using maple syrup is:

3/4 cup pure maple syrup = 1 cup of granulated sugar--and Reduce liquids in the recipe by 3 tablespoons for each cup of Maple Syrup used.
